The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey has defended the decision of the Meat and Milk Institution (ESK) to increase the price of red meat by 48 percent, stating that it does not impact the market as ESK only sells in 18 stores. The ministry also verified that the prices were 15 percent below market rate. ESK's former general manager, Osman Uzun, explained that the price increase was necessary to manage the crowds as the previous prices were much lower than the market rate.
