Muhaimin: Young People Reluctant to Become Farmers, Prefer to Be Civil Servants

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Human Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar highlighted the current young generation's reluctance to become farmers and their preference for careers as civil servants (ASN). “Our farmers are still suffering, their income is low, their welfare is also low. The most terrible thing is, young people are no longer willing to be farmers, they want to be civil servants,” said Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar during the Low-Cost Market event at Rusunawa Pasar Rebo, Jakarta, on Monday (22/9/2025). According to him, this is due to the farmers' lives still not being prosperous. “Our National Farmers' Day we commemorate as a tribute to the farmers who have contributed to supplying our food, meeting our daily needs. Farmers continue to serve despite suffering. Young people are reluctant to be farmers because the condition of farmers is indeed still suffering,” he said.
