The President of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria, Mr. Joseph Ajanaku, has identified a potential for Nigeria to earn over $2.7 billion annually by increasing its cashew production to 1 million metric tonnes. The country's current production is approximately 350,000 metric tonnes. Ajanaku is advocating for a national policy to attract both local and foreign investment, as well as the same privileges given to rice farmers under the Anchor Borrow Programme to cashew farmers. He also highlighted the challenge of the cashless policy affecting cocoa farmers due to their illiteracy and lack of bank accounts.
