In May 2023, Norway's seafood exports experienced a decline, with a 8% decrease in euro terms and a 5% decrease in USD terms compared to May 2022. Despite this, the first five months of 2023 saw an overall increase in export values, reaching NOK 67.5 billion, an increase of NOK 9.9 billion over the same period in 2022. The decrease in May was due to a drop in export volumes of cod, herring, spotted trout, pink salmon, pollock, and snow crab, while mackerel and haddock exports increased. Europe continues to be the largest market for Norwegian seafood, but Asia and North America are growing in share. The reopening of China has led to a significant increase in demand for Norwegian salmon. However, domestic consumption in Europe has decreased, while exports to Poland saw the largest increase in value.
