New Zealand is experiencing a severe shortage of onions due to adverse growing conditions, with around 90% of the country's onion production being exported. This shortage has impacted both local supermarkets and the food service industry, leading to supply issues for pizza chains like Domino's and fast-food outlets such as KFC. The price of onions has also surged by 72 cents per kilogram, making them more expensive than last year. The situation is expected to improve with the harvest of the new season's onions, which is currently underway.
