Peru has seen a dramatic increase in its blueberry exports, with a 16-fold growth in just under a decade, reaching 275,837 tons in 2022. The Scotiabank Economic Studies Department projects a further 30% increase for the 2022/23 season, reaching 285,000 tons. This growth is attributed to the development of more productive varieties and the conversion of less profitable crops to blueberry cultivation. The average export price has dropped to USD 4.90 per kg, due to increased volumes, and organic blueberry production has increased to 13% of the total. The industry is young and requires significant time for new variety validation. The US is the primary export destination, receiving 53% of total exports.
