From January to July 2021, Peru's passion fruit exports saw a 27% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching a total of US $ 35,643,000. This figure also surpassed the pre-pandemic numbers of 2019. The Netherlands and the United States were the primary markets, with the Netherlands receiving 52% of the shipments and the United States 20%. The Association of Exporters (ADEX) is working to enhance the passion fruit supply chain and improve the productivity and quality of the Criolla variety, which is renowned for its sweetness. The union has also initiated a project to enhance the technical-productive capacities in passion fruit cultivation, in collaboration with the National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA), aiming to develop a genetic cleaning, rescue lost varieties, and identify new ones.
