A joint inspection was conducted to preemptively crack down on illegal fishing by foreign vessels. The inspection, jointly carried out by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Coast Guard, involved 2 ships, including the National Fisheries Guidance Ship Mugunghwa 36, and 4 ships, including the Mokpo Coast Guard Ship 3013. This joint inspection was conducted in certain areas of the West Sea, among other places, to protect legitimate fishing activities and establish order in the fishing grounds, as it was anticipated that unlicensed fishing vessels would descend into the fishing grounds for main fishing species (such as mackerel and hairtail) in the Mokpo-Jeju area in December. To enhance the effectiveness of the inspection, the Fisheries Management Division of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Coast Guard organized a dedicated mobile task force for inspection within our waters.
