Dr Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw, a Senior Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Ghana, has called for the approval of the Genetic Modified Organisms (GMOs) Biotechnology cowpea (Bt cowpea) for farming due to its insect and pest resistance and better yields, as proven by over eleven years of confined field trials. He emphasized the importance of avoiding undue delays in the approval process to prevent regulatory costs. This call was made during a media training event organized by the Alliance for Science, with participants from the media and agricultural sectors. Farmers believe that the release of the Bt cowpea could attract more youth to agriculture due to its protein content.
