RM19.5 million has been allocated under the 12th Malaysia Plan to develop the coconut and coffee industries in the country. The funding will be used for infrastructure, agriculture materials, pest control equipment, and technology transfer for the two crops. In 2020, Malaysia's coffee plantations covered 2,200 hectares and produced 4,241 tonnes of coffee a year, while coconut plantations covered 84,942 hectares and produced 536 million coconuts. The majority of coffee production is of the Liberica and Robusta types, with the main plantations in Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak. The ministry will focus on four coconut varieties and 65.4% of the planted areas are in Peninsular Malaysia, with the rest in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
