In 2020, Georgia saw a significant increase in fruit and vegetable exports to Russia, reaching a record € 67 mln, a 62% increase from 2019. This increase was led by mandarin exports, which increased by 57%, followed by peaches and nectarines, plums, kakis, blueberries, cherries, and hazelnuts. However, the export of cucumbers and tomatoes to Russia fell by a third, and herbs by a quarter due to high cultivation costs and energy needs in Georgia's greenhouses. The country is also being urged by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to diversify its spice market and expand its product range.
