Russia stole the Melitopol cherry: the country appealed to the WIPO General Assembly

The Ukrainian government delegation called on the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to respond to the appropriation of the geographical indication "Melitopol cherry" by the Russian Federation. On July 12, 2024, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation announced on its website the registration of the designation "Melitopol Cherry". It is about the fact that "Melitopol cherry" became the first registered regional brand of the so-called new regions of the Russian Federation (in fact - temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine) - a geographical indication from the Melitopol district of the Zaporizhia region.
