The Moldovan walnut market experienced a significant decrease in inshell nut supply and a depletion of nut kernel reserves in January. Despite the influx of American walnuts into the EU market, demand for Eastern European nuts remains. Moldovan small farms and individuals have started selling nut kernels, albeit with varying quality. The price for nut kernels has peaked at 90-100 lei/kg ($5.07-5.73/kg), higher than last year but lower than 2020-21. European buyers are showing interest in contracting future harvest nuts, ensuring a good price for the remaining nut kernels from last year's harvest.
