REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG — Prices of chilies and red onions in Semarang City, Central Java, have skyrocketed. Specifically, the price of chilies has surged by as much as 100 percent from the normal price. Vegetable vendor at Gayamsari Market, Nurinaya (60 years old), revealed that the price of red chili peppers has reached Rp 80 thousand per kilogram. "This was previously Rp 30 thousand (per kilogram). The price has been rising for three or four days now," she said when interviewed by Republika on Thursday (4/12/2025). She admitted that she did not know the factors causing the surge in red chili pepper prices. "I don't know the reason. Here I am selling, suddenly the selling price is high," said Nurinaya.
