Unusually low cucumber prices in Hungary are causing concern for domestic producers due to an unexpected surplus and a potential unprofitable spring season. The situation arose due to a significant decrease in imports, particularly from Spain, and an increase in domestic production, leading to a supply-demand imbalance. This has resulted in net producer prices dropping to HUF 300-350/kg, a quarter of the usual price, and raising concerns about the quality and efficiency of imported cucumbers. Experts recommend prioritizing domestic cucumbers for their higher quality to mitigate the effects of the market anomaly.
