The article provides an overview of the performance of durum wheat, soft wheat, and barley markets in Italy during the first half of the 2024-2025 marketing campaign. The campaign started with high price expectations due to a expected lower than average national harvest, but a cold shower in July led to price drops. Durum wheat prices remained stable until October, largely due to declining pasta consumption and the impact of supply chain contracts. Soft wheat prices were affected by quality issues, with "strong" wheat commanding higher prices. Barley prices saw a significant increase due to issues with corn, reaching 240 euros/t on 9 December 2024.
