Unusually warm weather conditions have disrupted the fish supply in Istanbul, leading to empty fish stalls and a significant price increase. The weight of Zinekop fish has doubled to 200 TL, while anchovy and horse mackerel, the most sought-after fish during this season, are selling for 60 TL and 100 TL per kilo respectively. Fisherman Muharrem Arduç attributes the shortage to the lack of snow and rain, which are essential for fish to breed and increase in numbers. He believes that if the weather conditions improve, prices will drop and there will be an abundance of fish.
