The European Cereals Association (COCERAL) has lowered its forecast for the EU-27 + UK cereal crop in 2023 to 289.8 million tonnes, citing a greater impact of early drought in the northern part of the EU than expected. Wheat production is expected to decrease to 141.0 million tonnes, while barley production is forecasted to reach 54.7 million tonnes. The corn crop is expected to increase to 60.8 million tonnes, with France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria expected to see larger maize crops after being hit by severe drought and heat in 2022.
