Fishermen in Çanakkale have started their season following the lifting of the avian flu ban on September 1st, with a significant palamut (sea bass) shoal. The palamut shoal has since been replaced by a large number of chinekop. In the past, herring was sold for up to 400 TL per kilo. Kemal Dinçer, a balikci for 40 years, expects pullu balıklar (anchovies) in the future. Cemal Kartal from the balikçı esnafı (fishermen's guild) mentioned that both herring and chinekop are still being caught, despite a fire that affected balik prices. Dinçer also anticipates the presence of other fish such as istavrit, mezgit, and tekir.
