The MAPA distributes the mackerel quota among the fleet operating in the Northeast Atlantic

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the publication this Thursday of a Resolution in the Official State Gazette (BOE), has established the quota distribution for the northern mackerel fishery directed at vessels operating within the scope of the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC), belonging to the registries of deep-sea, large-scale, and trawling fleets. As a result of the intense work carried out by the General Secretariat of Fisheries to achieve quota exchanges with other Member States, and after the transfer of unused quota in 2025 through the application of the interannual flexibility mechanism, a quota of 1,275 tonnes has been reached. According to ministerial sources, this represents "a significant increase of three tonnes compared to the provisional Total Allowable Catches (TAC) set at the Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the European Union (EU) in December 2025."
