In the first half of 2022, Vietnam emerged as the leading supplier of cashew nuts to both the US and China, with its market share in these markets experiencing a rise. According to the US International Trade Commission, US imports of cashew nuts reached 80,000 tons valued at $521 million, with a notable 8% increase in value compared to the same period in 2021. Vietnam's cashew nut exports to the US rose by 6% in volume and 11% in value, accounting for 89.9% of the total US imports. In contrast, the shares of Brazil and India in the US market fell to 2.2% and 1%, respectively.
Turning to the Chinese market, imports of cashew nuts surged by 134% to $141.5 million in the first half of 2022, with Vietnam being the largest supplier at $125 million, marking a 146% increase compared to the same period in 2021. This growth propelled Vietnam's market share in China's total cashew nut imports to 88.2%, up from 83.7% in the first half of 2021. Meanwhile, the share of Myanmar in the Chinese market was 6.4%, and that of Togo and the Ivory Coast stood at 3.3% and 1.8%, respectively.
