In 2022, Hungary's Minister of Agriculture, István Nagy, announced a support program to bolster the meat pigeon product line and unify the commodity base. This initiative invites breeders to apply for funding to purchase meat pigeons or those bred within specific programs between January 15 and March 31, 2022. The program offers a budget of HUF 50 million, with applications to be submitted between April 1 and 8 via the Hungarian State Treasury's electronic interface. Since the introduction of previous subsidies, meat pigeons and pigeon food have expanded their presence in Budapest's retail outlets and restaurants, with vacuum-packed pigeon products making their debut at the 80th OMÉK trade fair in October.
