Over half of pangasius processing factories in the Mekong Delta and seafood processing factories in the Southeast have closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with up to 50% of businesses in some key areas suffering. The operating capacity of the pangasius industry is estimated to be only 10-20%. Many enterprises are considering shutting down due to high expenses and difficulty in travel and transportation. The shrimp industry also faces challenges with reduced processing capacity and a serious shortage of workers. Urgent measures are needed to restore the production chain, or there is a risk of collapse. Opinions are mixed on the effectiveness of the "3 on the spot" solution and concerns are raised about the potential for shrimp supply shortages until the end of the year or into 2022.
