During the anchovy hunting season from September 1, 2023, to April 15, 2024, Turkey achieved a significant increase in its anchovy exports, reaching 21 countries and generating $9.47 million in revenue, marking a 33% rise from the previous season's $7.14 million. Despite facing lower yields due to climatic challenges, the export volume impressively surged by 101% to 2,745 tons. Belgium, France, and Germany emerged as the top importing countries, with Greece and Dubai being notable new markets. The Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association highlighted that the growth was facilitated by the processing of anchovies into higher value-added products, overcoming the adverse effects of above-normal temperatures on the fishing yield.
