The Sheep Plague: Damages in the Millions and Lack of a Solution

The crisis with the sheep and goat plague has already inflicted severe damage on the sector. According to the National Sheep and Goat Association (NSGA), over 22,000 animals have been euthanized, damages exceed 16 million BGN, and over 130,000 animals are under restriction. "Farmers are losing trust in the institutions, and half of the farmers with euthanized animals will not restore their herds," warned the association repeatedly. But even without warnings, this is clear. Some farmers have even started to accuse the state of inaction and incomplete information to the public. According to Simeon Karakolev, co-chair of the NSGA, already over 30% of farmers are illegally vaccinating with Turkish preparations.
