In June, Spain saw a significant increase in the export of fresh fruits and vegetables, with a 14% rise in volume and a 17% increase in value compared to the same period last year. The total export volume was 1.7 million tons, valued at 1,291 million euros. Despite a 4% decrease in vegetable volume, their value increased by 2%. There was a notable growth in the export of tomatoes, peppers, carrots, lettuce, and cabbages. Fruit exports also surged by 22%, with a value of 962 million euros, driven by an increase in red fruits like strawberries and blueberries. However, the sector faces challenges such as the impact of adverse weather conditions and the influx of imports from Morocco. FEPEX suggests that the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan funds could help address the sector's technological and investment deficits, and support the shift towards an environmental and climate-friendly farming model.
