The Peruvian Association of Avocado Exporters (Prohass) reports a significant increase in avocado plantations in Peru, with 50,699 hectares registered in 2021, up from 27,312 hectares in 2017. Half of these plantations are owned by small farmers. The country expects to export around 510,000 tons of avocados this year, with Europe being the primary market, but there are plans to expand to North America. Prohass is keen to avoid over saturating Europe and is seeking to enter the US market, provided the dry matter quality is consistent. Prohass also aims to enter other markets such as Mexico, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand.
