The Ministry of Agriculture in Chile has declared an agricultural emergency due to the discovery of the strawberry quarantine nematode, Aphelenchoides fragariae, in the south central zone. The disease has been confirmed on three farms in the Los Lagos Region, and efforts are being made to contain it with increased phytosanitary surveillance and the use of 13 pesticides. Producers are urged to report any symptoms and to only purchase plants from certified nurseries. The Ministry has allocated $1,935 million to cover the costs of this situation and will provide support to nearly 2,000 strawberry producers.
