Tofu and tempeh producers are struggling to get soybean stocks, causing about 50,000 manufacturers to stop production and impacting around 500,000 workers in the sector. The shortage of soybeans has been going on for 2 months, with prices creeping up ahead of Christmas and New Year. While the Indonesian Soybean Association denied a shortage, the Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Tofu Tempe Producer Cooperatives reported that the shortage is severe in many areas, and imports of soybeans are running smoothly.
