Due to toxic algae in the Black Sea, authorities in Romania have banned the harvesting of clams and crabs from certain areas, out of concern for self-harvesting enthusiasts. The Veterinary-Sanitary Directorate in Constanta reported high water toxicity levels, leading to a ban on the sale of seafood collected between May 23 and June 3. Respiratory and allergic issues can be caused by toxins from the algae, and experts have advised the public to avoid eating shellfish from affected areas until water quality tests can be repeated.
