According to a report by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, the wheat harvest is estimated at 16.3 million tons, a 15% reduction from the previous cycle. The quality, however, is described as very good. The agency points out that most of the volume will be destined for milling, leaving less product for animal feed, as stated in the report. The projection includes about 3.5 million tons of durum wheat, used in the manufacture of pasta for domestic consumption and export.
