In 2020, the European Union (EU) imported 163,700 tons of honey from third countries, with China being the largest exporter at 37%, followed by Ukraine with 28%, and Argentina with 12%. Germany was the largest importer, accounting for 25% of all honey imports. However, a study by the European Commission revealed that nearly half of the imported honey, especially from China, contained impurities such as sugar, which violates EU regulations. Despite these findings, Olga Trofimtseva, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, believes that Ukraine can compete in the market by supplying high-quality honey, as beekeeping is a growing industry with potential for women and veterans in Ukraine.
