Wide-row sowing combined with slow growth in the early stages makes corn and sunflower extremely sensitive to weed infestation at the initial stages of organogenesis. This situation brings the use of soil herbicides to the forefront in the technology of growing these crops, says Oleksandr Myhlovets, head of the agrotechnology department at Ukravit. He added that to choose a basic herbicide protection, it is necessary to take into account the type of weed infestation of a specific field, the previous crop, which can be a source of black-grass, the mechanical composition of the soil and its humus content, the moisture level, and the temperature conditions at the time of spraying. To control the most common weeds in sunflower, corn, as well as soybean, sorghum, and potato crops, Oleksandr recommends choosing the herbicide Varyag (metolachlor, 315 g/l + terbuthylazine, 190 g/l).
