The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is delaying the enforcement of a rule that requires hemp grown under the USDA Domestic Hemp Production Program to be tested in laboratories registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) until December 31, 2025. This decision is due to the lack of sufficient DEA-registered laboratories for testing. For 2024 and 2025, hemp growers can use laboratories that are not DEA-registered. The USDA made this decision after receiving feedback from state and tribal governments and third-party cannabis testing facilities regarding delays in the DEA's laboratory registration process.
