Truong Viet Thang, head of Toan Thang Trade Import and Export Company, discusses Vietnam's preparations to export frozen durian to China, emphasizing the higher investment required for frozen durian factories compared to fresh durian packaging. The Chinese market's high demand for durian and the longer shelf life of frozen durian are expected to stabilize the market. However, Vietnamese durian exporters face challenges such as high prices, fierce competition, and quality control issues. The rapid expansion of durian planting has led to quality management problems, and Vietnamese durian is often seen as inferior to Thai durian. Additionally, the industry struggles with non-compliance with plant quarantine standards, excessive chemical residues, early harvesting, illegal use of planting area codes, and unfair market competition, all of which hinder the development of a reputable brand.
