The European Commission appears to be taking another step back regarding the possibility of pensioners receiving direct payments, specifically the so-called basic payment. It seems that concerns about the political cost are outweighing efforts to streamline payments in favor of young and genuine professionals in the agricultural sector, as European authorities open the door for pensioners to remain in the various schemes, commented agronews.gr.
