The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly shifted consumer drinking habits, with wine emerging as the most popular e-commerce purchase, according to a report by CGA. The research reveals that 53% of consumers have bought wine online during the pandemic, compared to 26% for lager and 24% for gin. Soft drinks and craft beer round out the top five most purchased drinks online. The trend is particularly strong among older adults missing their regular on-trade visits, with many trying alcohol online for the first time. The report also notes a surge in alcohol delivery subscriptions since the first lockdown in March. Despite the anticipated reopening of pubs, bars, and restaurants, the growth in online drinks sales is expected to persist.
