Zimbabwean government distributes 450,000 sweet potato plants

The government of Zimbabwe has distributed 450,000 virus-free sweet potato plants in all provinces of the country under the Presidential Sweet Potato Vine program. Hilda Manditsvara, chief horticultural specialist at ARDAS, stated that the plants are virus-free, high-yielding and distributed across all provinces of the country. "We expect that the 50 distributed plants will have a strong stimulating effect within the communities and act as a breeding ground for other members of the agricultural communities. Combined with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), we expect that these plants will have a major impact on the cultivation of sweet potatoes," says Manditsvara.
