The main export destinations for fresh onions were the United States, Colombia, and Spain. The Spanish onion campaign was affected by several factors, primarily due to drought conditions which resulted in a 40% reduction in cultivated area. The limited availability of water has contributed to high onion prices, with source prices surging from USD 0.21/kg (EUR 0.2/kg) in March 2022 to USD 1.39/kg (EUR 1.30 /kg) in March 2023, an increase of 238%. The price of onions has increased during the season, reaching USD 0.45/kg (EGP 14/kg), leading to farmers refraining from planting onions due to heavy losses in prior seasons. In the Egyptian market, the price of red onions ranged at USD 0.45/kg (EGP 14/kg), and golden onions stood at USD 0.52/kg (EGP 16/kg). In the Obour wholesale markets of Egypt, onions stood at USD 0.26-0.36/kg (EGP 8-11/kg). On the other hand, in Turkey, the price of onions has significantly decreased after the onion harvest in Adana. In wholesale markets of the Yenikapı district, the price of onions ranged from USD 0.50-0.83/kg (10-16.5/kg) depending on their quality.

The Commerce Minister of Bangladesh has issued a formal ultimatum to traders, stating a two-day deadline to lower the price of onions. If the price does not decrease within the timeframe, the minister has declared his intention to initiate onion imports from other countries. The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced that ten regions of Kazakhstan signed contracts for the initial shipment of early onions from Tajikistan. The total volume of the contracts amounts to 260 tons. The regions involved in these contracts include Ulytau, Kostanay, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Akmola, Turkestan, Abay, Zhetysu, and Zhambyl.
