Peruvian Avocado Expecting Similar Volume to 2023 Season

The Peruvian avocado season is currently in the initial stages of flowering and fruit setting. The northern areas, including Chiclayo, Trujillo, and Áncash lead in production, collectively representing 50% of Peru's avocado production. However, warm weather is leading to some concerns, potentially resulting in avocado production volume similar to the 2023 season, which is 570 thousand metric tons (mt). Agronomic management is focusing on consolidating volumes, with the challenge of preventing excessive tree growth. Despite challenges, fruit quality is expected to be good. Peru is actively exploring new markets and has plans to export avocados to Malaysia.

Additionally, strategic efforts are underway in the United States (US) and Europe, specifically focusing on the East Coast. The approach involves implementing promotional campaigns to enhance market presence. The Peruvian Avocado Commission and the World Avocado Organization are playing key roles in business strategies and market promotion.

California Anticipates Decline in Avocado Production for the 2024 Season

The California Avocado Commission (CAC) forecasts a crop of 94.35 thousand mt for the fiscal year 2023/24, a decrease from the previous year's 107.5 thousand mt. California avocado growers may delay harvest due to weather and market conditions, anticipating increased avocado size with the potential for a wet winter. Most of the harvest (89 thousand mt) will be the Hass variety. CAC is partnering with Curious Plot, a data record agency, to roll out a consumer ad campaign. It will center on the California Avocados brand, highlighting local growth and sustainability. The effective social support from last season is carrying over into the 2024 season, and there's anticipation for even greater momentum as the supply increases from Mar-24 to Apr-24.

Mexican Avocado Industry Prepares for Super Bowl 2024

The Mexican avocado industry is getting ready for the Super Bowl, intending to send 15 thousand tons of avocados for the event, which is higher than the 9 thousand tons exported in 2023. In the US, the National Football League championship is commonly known as the Super Bowl. Approximately 74 thousand tons of avocados are consumed during the Super Bowl. These avocados are used in preparing guacamole, a popular choice among American consumers while watching the event. Despite expectations of increased demand, current prices remain steady, and there's a noted decrease in demand this week. Avocado consumption during the Super Bowl is a US tradition, with prices in Mexico currently between USD 1.63 to 1.75 28 per kilogram (kg), lower than the previous 2023 season. Climatic changes in Jalisco have impacted avocado sizes, leading to lower prices. Despite challenges, the industry remains committed to providing high-quality avocados for the Super Bowl.
