
In W20 in the grapefruit landscape, it was reported that the citrus growers in Florida's "River" production region along the Indian River Lagoon have developed unsurpassed flavor and texture in a fresh grapefruit product. However, the industry has been steadily declining in the last two decades. To address this, two research projects involving more than 39K trees are expected to reveal which new varieties will tolerate pressure from the most serious citrus disease worldwide. Further, in Mexico, Morelos is a large citrus producer, with 764ha divided into lemon, orange, mandarin and grapefruit crops. Tangerines and grapefruit are also cultivated, with five identified hectares in Tlaltizapán and one in Tepalcingo. More than 50% of the production is marketed in Morelos and the minority is sold in Mexico City.
