Brazil: Exported Chicken Volume Renews Record in 2022, and Domestic Price Rises (Dec 29)
The volume of chicken meat exported by Brazil renewed the record in 2022. According to researchers from Cepea, with the war between Russia and Ukraine and the increase in the number of cases of avian flu in the Northern Hemisphere, the external demand for the Brazilian protein grew significantly. This scenario, added to the lower supply of animals during the year, raised domestic meat prices compared to those of 2021 (in nominal terms).
China: Meat Markets in the EU and China Will Change Over the Next Ten Years (Dec 31)
In addition to falling consumption, the EC expects a further shift towards eating white meat. Opting more often for poultry meat is at the expense of red meat. There are sufficient sales opportunities for European beef and veal on the world market, but this is becoming increasingly difficult for European pork. Therefore, according to the EC, poultry farming as the only livestock sector has opportunities to grow, also because global demand for poultry meat will increase. Despite the higher prices in the EU, there will be an import demand for white meat on the world market.

Tanzania: High Number of Poultry Farmers Lead to Sharp Price Fall (Dec 30)
Tanzania Meat Board (TMB) has said the increase in poultry farmers is the major reason for the increase in supply of birds in the market that resulted in the huge drop in prices. TMB Registrar, Dr Daniel Mushi said in Dar es Salaam on December 29 that the information gathered from stakeholders in the poultry industry has uncovered that poultry meat imports are not the reason for the price decline in the market. The registrar noted that experience shows most poultry farmers target huge demand in the year-end festive season, but this time round the season has not been in favour of the farmers due to a sharp drop in prices contributed by the increased supply of birds in the market.
The price of chicken meat increased during the Christmas and New Year period. According to the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the price of chicken rose 0.53% to USD 2.42/kg (IDR 37,800). Even so, chicken farmers actually admit to experiencing losses because the farmer's production capital is above the selling price of the chicken in the cage. In fact, if you refer to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) the price of a normal chicken in a cage should be up to USD 1.35/head (IDR 21,000). Sugeng said that the drop in chicken prices at the farmer level was due to several reasons.

The markets are witnessing a state of great optimism, following the decisions to release the goods accumulated in the ports, and the saving of nearly USD 5B during the recent period, which directly contributed to calming the feed and poultry market. Sameh El-Sayed, head of the Poultry Division at the Chamber of Commerce, revealed that the prices of a ton of fodder decreased by about USD 52.43(1,300 pounds), to record levels of USD 959.86 (23,800 pounds), compared to levels close to USD 1008.26 (25,000 pounds), which provided the farmer’s needs and then a lull in the significant rise in poultry and egg prices.

Production went from 17.03B to 16.26B eggs, hence the consumption of eggs per person fell from 334 to 315 units per year, with a reduction of 19 units.
