In addition, Ordu in Türkiye built new modern hazelnut orchards to improve yields and quality. Furthermore, in the first two months of 2024, Azerbaijan's hazelnut export value decreased by USD 900 thousand to USD 22.4 million. However, the Feb-24 exports increased by 7% YoY to USD 12.3 million.

W13 Hazelnut Update: Türkiye's Sector Rehabilitation Initiatives and Export Trends in Düzce

In W13 in the hazelnut landscape, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is spearheading the "Hazelnut Orchards Rehabilitation Project" to rejuvenate Türkiye's hazelnut industry by focusing on yield enhancement, quality improvement, cost reduction, and modernization. This initiative aims to replace old and unproductive orchards with modern terraces, offering 100% grant support to participating producers. As of Apr-24, renovation work has been completed on 25 hectares of land across orchards belonging to 34 producers in 9 districts, with plans for another 10 hectares within the year. The project seeks to empower producers to generate higher profits through increased yields and reduced production costs, while also ensuring the long-term sustainability of hazelnut production in Türkiye. Meanwhile, data from the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry reveals trends in hazelnut exports from Düzce during Q1-24, indicating a dominance of processed hazelnut exports to the EU, with 4 thousand mt exported during the period.
