Low profitability of sugarcane production causing Vietnamese farmers to try out alternative crops

Because of the mass import of sugarcane into Vietnam, which is a result of import tax exemption and reduction for sugarcane, Vietnamese farmers choosing to switch their production to other crops: low domestic sugar prices and long-lasting carryover stock make sugarcane production unprofitable for farmers. Many sugarcane farmers turned to other agricultural products such as seedless lemon, maize, pineapple.
