In the span of January to early July 2020, the export of black and green tea from the North Sumatra province has been recorded at 480 MT, which has been accumulated from 25 shipments from Belawan port in this region. This export volume is actually a significant decrease from last year's record at 550 MT during the same period, which makes it rather more difficult for the exporters in this region to match last year's overall export volume of 1,200 MT. Aside from the dip in production output of tea in this region, the lower export volume was also attributed to decreased demand due to the slowing down of the global economy during the coronavirus pandemic.
