The demand for jackfruit is very high in the Philippines. However, the production of jackfruit in the country is very limited, even if it is indigenous. Demand for the fruit is growing, and local production can hardly keep up so that 30% of total domestic demand is imported from Vietnam and Thailand each year. Not many farmers are willing to plant more jackfruit because they prefer to plant high-quality fruit trees such as cocoa, coffee, and avocado.
