Price Drop of Argentinian Pears in W13, Compared to the Beginning of the 2022/23 Season in Brazil

The Argentinian pears season usually starts with the Giffard variety (an early variety with short shelf life), followed by the Williams variety two weeks later. In 2023, both arrived at the same time, affecting Giffard variety sales, which started its season at the end of January. The season started with high prices of around USD 19/box FCA-Argentina and dropped in W13 to around USD 13/box due to the high availability in Argentina, and thus also in the Brazilian market, increasing the competition between the importers.
According to importers, the price of Williams pears will start increasing again due to the harvest ending soon, and then the Packams variety will start. Williams variety is the preferred variety in Brazil, and packing houses in Argentina that still keep it stored will find better sell prices.
