The Kenya Meteorological Department predicted below-average rainfall in most parts of the country which could affect maize production in the 2023 season which starts in March and lasts through May. This includes regions with high maize production potential, such as Western Kenya, Rift Valley, and Lake Victoria basin, which will receive lower rain compared to the usual high rainfall of more than 300mm expected during the production period. The implication would be a lower volume maize harvest that will continue to put upward pressure on maize flour prices in the country.
