CALAMASUR and OPRAS sign an agreement to fight illegal giant squid fishing in international waters

The Committee for the Sustainable Management of the South Pacific Giant Squid (Calamasur) and the Organization for the Protection of South-West Atlantic Resources (OPRAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding through which it will seek to give an adequate and express framework to cooperation between the two organizations in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (INDNR) in all maritime spaces, on the high seas and international waters.

Calamasur is composed of productive actors from Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru, while OPRAS, together with the Sindicato dos Armadores e Das Industrias de Pesca de Itajai e Região (SINDIPI - Brazil), are constituent members of the Private Commission for Sustainable Fisheries in the South-West Atlantic.

The agreement was signed by Alan Mackern, President of OPRAS and Alfonso Miranda, President of Calamasur on July 22, 2020.
