In January 2022, Cameroon exported 18,934 MT of fresh bananas to EU countries. This production represents an 8.5% YoY increase from the 17,458 MT the country exported in January 2021. It is worth mentioning that up till now, the country's production is exclusively exported to EU countries and that the current production figures (198,634MT in 2021) are far from satisfying the government which had earlier declared its objective of reaching 500,000 MT of banana yearly production by 2030.
Since the country still has cultivable lands and an appropriate climate for banana production, business initiatives geared toward establishing banana commercial farms in the country will surely be welcome by the authorities since they will contribute to bridging the close to 300,000 MT production gap.
